Most people know that anti-oxidants are good for you. There is a case for a daily dose of anti-oxidants in the prevention and treatment of many diseases. To grasp the need for anti-oxidants, remember the atom. Remember the nucleas with the floating rings around it and the electrons on those rings? When the electrons are not paired, they are in an oxidated state and search for a spare electron to fill their ring. This oxidated state is what produces a ‘free radical’. Free radicals steal electrons from healthy tissue and lead to cellular damage and aging.

We are constantly exposed to free radicals. The sun, the air, the water, the food we eat, the products we apply to our skin, medications, and radiation exposure are all pro-oxidants; contributing to oxidative damage. An anti-oxidant, then, is a substance that provides that extra electron to quench the free radical. It protects our tissues and cells by contributing an electron to a pro-oxidant to prevent damage to your body. There are many anti-oxidants, but the two most potent are Vitamin C and Glutathione.

Vitamin C is the most abundant anti-oxidant found outside of the cells. Long touted for its immune stimulating effects; it is useful for preventing and treating infections, cancer, and heart disease. Vitamin C is known as ‘The ultimate antidote’ due to its ability to neutralize toxins from chemicals such as benzene and alcohol, pharmaceutical drugs, and microbial by-products. Vitamin C is one of the safest supplements and even high daily doses (200,000mg) are virtually devoid of side effects (even kidney stones!).

The most important antioxidant inside the cells is Glutathione. In addition to neutralizing chemical toxins such as mercury and pesticides, Glutathione is used to prevent and treat diseases of the brain, such as Alzheimers and Parkinson’s, the heart, such as High Blood Pressure and Atrial Fibrillation, the lungs, such as asthma and COPD, the eyes and the liver. Glutathione is often thought of as the anti-aging anti-oxidant. Glutathione is not absorbed well orally, unless using a liposomal Glutathione, which bypasses the digestive tract and delivers GSH straight into the bloodstream; the only effective form of oral Glutathione, it is far more convenient to than an IV, which is the traditional delivery of Glutathione. Liposomal technology is so effective, that I recommend Vitamin C in a liposomal form as well. There is a much higher rate of absorption for these supplements than any other oral form. The ultimate preventive regimen should include both liposomal Glutathione and liposomal Vitamin C. With just these two anti-oxidants, you can prevent and reverse oxidative damage both inside and outside of every cell.
